The INSPIRED GOLF TOUR is a series of amateur events for golfers of all skill levels.

In 2001, the INSPIRED GOLF TOUR (IGT) was conceived to permit Atlanta-area amateur golfers to play in competitive, yet fun events at some of the area’s finest daily-fee, resort and private golf clubs. Unlike some tours that profit from organizing these events, the founders of the INSPIRED GOLF TOUR merely arranged the most competitive rates with the courses for its participants and passed those costs along without marking them up.

Originally, IGT used these events to promote Points North Magazine, a lifestyle magazine published by the same company that now publishes SportsUnlimited. In addition, IGT sought to increase the awareness of many area courses that were relatively unknown or had just recently opened.

Many of the participants of our first events are still playing with us today, and some have become close personal friends for many of us at Points North and SportsUnlimited.

As time had passed, we have altered the format of our events to provide golfers of all abilities the opportunity to win valuable prizes. We gladly accept players with a USGA handicap index (or their last 10 scorecards) the chance to play with and against other golfers of similar abilities. The events typically attract 24 to 60 golfers, depending upon time, day of the week, price and the course itself. Golfers are separated into a minimum of three flights by handicap indexes, and to keep the pace of play as quick as possible, the Stableford format provides zero points for a double bogey or higher, which allows players to pick up if they don’t make a bogey or better.

By using a quota system (for example: a scratch golfer’s Stableford quota is 36 points, while a golfer carrying a USGA index of 18 has a quota of 18 points), we have leveled the playing field even further for all participants within their own flight. If your quota is 18, and you score 21 Stableford points, your adjusted total is +3, which means you have an excellent chance to win your flight.

We have expanded the INSPIRED GOLF TOUR's geographical boundaries beyond Georgia and will host several events during the concluding months of 2008 and throughout 2009 in other states throughout the Southeast, including Jacksonville (Sept. 25-27, 2008) and the Village of Pinehurst, N.C. (Nov. 10-13, 2008). Our 2009 schedule will include many great golf resorts and courses throughout the Southeast.
